Like the thousands of other people on August 21, 2017, I was outside staring up at the sun waiting in anticipation for the once in a lifetime eclipse to make its way over my area.
The day however did not start off as planned. Mother nature had her own agenda and the clouds covered the skies, thunder rumbled, lightening streaked the skies and rain poured. I was beginning to think that there was no way we were going to get to see the eclipse. I was not a happy camper to say the least.
And then, like a miracle, right around 11am, the skies opened up, the clouds moved away and the sun began to shine brightly!
I grabbed my phone (for the camera of course!), my homemade paper viewer and headed out to my driveway so I could watch this event take place. I set my paper on the ground with another piece of paper that had foil taped in the middle of it with a pinhole in hand and started to watch the reflection on paper.
To be honest, this was not very exciting, I wanted to see the real deal! Unfortunately I didn't have those cool solar eclipse glasses to wear that everyone else had. They were sold out around me and those that were selling them (individuals online) were wanting way too much. So, I decided to just use my phone, looked at it in selfie mode with the sun behind me and snap pictures.
This was cool and all, but really didn't excite me either. I took the risk... I turned my phone around and looked at the screen of my phone and watched the sun through my phone. I snapped a ton of photos and even did some recording.
And here is one of the recordings I captured.... (Warning, one of my kids says a bad word in this recording haha)... This was during the actual full coverage where the moon passed over.

And just about the time we were suppose to have full coverage, the clouds started rolling back in. I still got some cool photos though. And the reflection from my camera actually shows on some of the photos and you can see the eclipse in the reflection...

So I didn't actually see the eclipse like I have seen other people posting pictures or how those saw it when viewing through special glasses, but what I did get to see was still pretty cool to watch and I am glad that I got to witness this event. As if mother nature was just waiting, as soon as it was over the clouds once again took over the skies and the rain started again.
Just another pic I thought was pretty cool |
And another cool photo. |
